Warno Dispatch Vol. 9 - the Crucible

SDL Recap

Welcome Warno fans to the crucible that is SDL playoffs. As mentioned last week, deciding games will feature blind division picks amping up the excitement. Matchups will pit style vs substance, one trick ponies vs commander’s with deep divisional knowledge, and T-72s versus Leopards. Here is what we can expect:

Division 1

Fortitude Fence vs Stahlbrecher - Fence has not lost to a Tank division this season, while Stahlbrecher has ONLY picked tank divisions and 16 DE. 16 DE vs 4th Mot match up perhaps?

Bablegun vs Hippie - Bablegun has not repeated a division selection once whereas Hippie’s division pool for group stage was half as diverse. Is Hippie holding strategies in reserve?

Griffon vs mix90 - The bigger the tank they can wield the better Griffon does. Mix90 has felt comfortable going way under tank divisions with MNAD and Korpus. These games may come down to artillery sniping ATGMs!

Stardek vs Tmanplays - Stardeck has had 56 ya banned in every match up while Tmanplays has chosen it three times. Will 56 ya get to make a mark on this matchup?

Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4 will get the same treatment in a bonus Dispatch when they are finalized. If you believe you are in the playoffs, please fill out this player profile to help the production value of our streams, HERE.

Fatkid’s Lunch - Division Analysis

SNAPSHOT HERE

FULL DATA HERE

What good is the Warno Dispatch if it can’t help you improve your tournament play? Well in today’s section of Fatkid’s Lunch we talk counter picks that will win you games of Warno. First let's discuss last week’s archetype update. The following changes, as per the community’s wishes were made:

Now Labeled as Infantry

101st US, 19 czech, 39 ya, 27 ya, DivMob, 56 vdv -> ya

Now Labeled as Tank

5e, 6e, Division Acorazada Brunete

Thank you to those that were involved in this project, I appreciate your input. By utilizing this data certain divisions stand out as archetype killers. If your opponent selects a Tank Division here is what you should pick:

  • Division Acorazada Brunete (6-0)

  • MultiNational Airborne Division (6-1)

  • 7th panzer (6-2)

  • 6 ya (6-2)

  • 2. Panzergrenadier (6-2)

  • 4. Motorisierte Schützendivision (5-1)

All of these divisions are “faster” than heavy tank divs but have some tools to either out tempo the midgame to make the tank divisions stumble in their comeback or have some late game power, usually in the form of aircraft (AT/HE/CLU) to counterpunch. If your opponent selects an Infantry Division here is what you should pick:

  • 16 DE Pantserdivisie (12-2)

  • 101st Airborne (5-1)

  • 20 Dywizja Pancerna (5-0)

Efficiency is the key when you are up against an Infantry deck. Can you get more stuff out on the field than your opponent? And the three divisions above do this, albeit very differently, in spades.  If your opponent selects an Airborne Division here is what you should pick:

  • 19. Motostrelecka Divize (3-0)

  • 4 Dywizja Zmechanizowana (3-0)

  • 2nd Infantry (2-0)

  • 119-Y Odt. Tank. Polk (2-0)

  • 16 DE (2-1-1)

Although Airborne divisions are chosen only 17% of the time, they have the best archetype win rate of 55%. As a result, you can see your options for countering them are limited. If you want to get better at SDL for next season, pick an Airborne Division and master it.

And for our winless divisions in SDL Season 5 we have six (6!) of them!!

  • 76-ya OG Desantno-Shturmovaya  (0-5-1)

  • 4th Armored Division (0-5)

  • 35th Infantry Division (Mech.) (0-3)

  • 35-ya OG Desantno-Shturmovaya (0-3)

  • 24th Infantry Division (0-2-1)

  • 303. Tankova Divize (0-0)

I am willing to wager at least a cheeseburger that one of these divisions will win a playoff game. Any takers?

Fantasy Update

Wow is fantasy turning out to be one of my favorite parts of SDL. And I stink at it! And it's still great. Below are the current top nine players. There was a lot of overlap in each competitor's selection of Commanders so I did my best to highlight each unique selection that is still in the playoffs. Reminder, playoff points are worth 1.5x as group stage wins, so if one of the Commanders below makes a deep run into the playoffs, THE SDL MERCH COULD BE YOURS!!

  • Sequoia - rooting for theHellene

  • Mike/Chips - rooting for griffon_65

  • FM14 - rooting for Hippie, Stahlbrecher, Kotch, goldenpanzer30

  • Grand Potato - rooting for Kotch, 5_luuk_5

  • Woodtick69 - rooting for Hippie

  • Nocturna - rooting for Aim_Deusi

  • Stahlbrecher - rooting for Aim_Deusi

  • Adler_750 - rooting for greyhound and 5_luuk_5

  • Meddinator - rooting for Stardekk

Warno Ranked GOTW

If you have an interesting ranked game of Warno that you would like to share, now is your chance! Please send your replays and a short description to Warno.Dispatch@gmail.com to be considered for this space each week.

Until next week Commanders…

The playoffs for SDL will be fascinating this season as the depth of each Commander’s division pool will be tested. Moreover, with better data collection and dissemination, there is room for rogue strategies and more purposeful drafting. For those that did not make the playoffs, fear not, more Warno is on the horizon.

First, this weekend, November 8th, yours truly is in need of a partner for the FOB 2v2 one day tournament. I bring great macro decisions, good vibes, but I will get my tanks side shot. You have been warned. Feel free to reach out to me via Discord if you would like to partner up. Or find a partner of your own and sign up on the FOB discord! (HERE)

Second, the FOB discord has started signups for the next season of their tournament series. This season’s FOB tournament is being labeled as “the Champions League of Warno” as they are utilizing a single table akin to UEFA’s Champions League soccer tournament. Scheduling will still try to match the skill level of Commanders so all should feel comfortable signing up. This is a great tournament to be your first tournament! Signups can be found HERE. Their season is scheduled to start mid-November so fill out the form for more competitive Warno action now.

Lastly, a nugget (yum) of advice. If you told me today to ban three divisions for a tournament game, I would snap off 16 DE, 6 ya, and 2nd panzer. I think all three of them stand head and shoulders above the meta. Would you do the same? Now go forth and experiment with the “truck and tank” meta and complain about Surrounded’s sight lines.
